Every country have their own rules and regulations to allow foriegn medical graduates FMG to practice medicine. In the USA and Canada USMLE (US Medical Licensing Examination) is required, in the UK MRCPUK (Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK), in Australia AMC (Australian Medical Council) examination, in Saudia Arabia SMLE, DHA, HAAD in gulf countries are required.

WHAT IS USMLE

USMLE 2022 - The USMLE is a 3-Step examination for medical licensure in the US. They are USMLE Step 1, USMLE Step 2 CK and USMLE Step 3. The USMLE program supports medical licensing authorities and physicians in the US through development, delivery, and continual improvement of high-quality assessments across the continuum of physicians’ preparation for practice.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR USMLE / ELIGIBILITY FOR USMLE STEPS

For USMLE Step 1 and USMLE Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) - Outside the US and Canada Examinees should be officially enrolled in Medical School listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) and meeting ECFMG eligibility requirements. Step 1 and Step 2 CK may be taken in any sequence.
For USMLE Step 3 - The Examinees should hold a Medical degree from a medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and meeting ECFMG eligibility requirements AND Pass Step1 and Step 2 CK AND Posses ECFMG Certification.

TEST FORMAT AND TEST LENGTH

USMLE Step 1 - Approximate 280 multiple choice questions MCQs divided into seven 1 hour blocks length; Step 1 is completed in One day approx. 8 hours.
USMLE Step 2 CK - Approximate 318 multiple choice questions MCQs divided into eight 1 hour blocks length; Step 2 is completed in One day approx. 9 hours.
USMLE Step 3 - Day 1 (FIP) Foundation of Independent Practice - Approximate 232 multiple choice questions MCQs divided into six 1 hour blocks length; FIP is completed in One day.
USMLE Step 3 - Day 2 (ACM) Advance Clinical Medicine -Approximate 180 multiple choice questions MCQs divided into six 45 minutes blocks length; ACM is completed in One day.

NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS AND TIME LIMIT

If an examinee fails four times to clear a step then he / she is ineligible to apply for any step

RETAKING FAIL EXAMINATION

An examinee may take the same exam three times in a year

WHERE THE TESTS ARE ADMINISTERED

Step 1 and Step 2 CK are administered at Prometric Centers. Step 3 is also administered at Prometric Centers in the USA and its territories.
